Doug’s books are gentle, fun, colorful, and inspiring rhyming stories and poems. His goal is to express universal themes providing positive messages and reading experiences for adults and children.
“For some, writing is a chore and reading anything but a pleasant pursuit. Fortunately, there are vastly more people in the world looking to encounter a new, fresh story or simply revel in the recalled experiences of someone else. It provokes ones own memories and deep feelings for a person, place, or time forgotten allowing readers to more deeply live in their present. Readers of this ilk tend to adore writers like Doug Snelson, an author who has made writing occasional poems a daily practice.”

“The poems of Doug Snelson came as a surprise. I embraced their originality from the moment I began reading them, one by one. I was immediately taken by Snelson’s individualistic view of things and his ability to make our old words work again, even to sing. His distinctive vision, with its emphasis on the ordinary life around us, is well worth the reading. This poet accomplishes what every poet should aspire toward—he instructs on how to see and hear with aplomb.”
—Neeli Cherkovski, award-winning poet, author, and memoirist

Fun and Whimsical Verses to Dink About
And Paddle Click
A word about the truth,
We all call sportsmanship.
No need to be uncouth,
Be slow to let your inside slip.
Treat with respect, they did their best,
Good shot, good try, play fair,
What troubles you should lie to rest,
A good sport means you care.
It’s just a game, you win, you lose,
Play hard, play kind, be in the thick.
Play for the love, avoid the blues,
End with a smile, and paddle click.
